Default My '89 Lincoln Town Car

Since I'm new here, I figure it would be fun to do one of these!

This here is my 1989 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series. It is my first car and I bought it when I was sixteen. I wanted to get one of these ever since there was a 1988 TC for sale down the street from my house. I almost bought that one but the price was too high considering the condition it was in.

I bought this beauty for $2,000. (Yes, I know, that's a high price for these cars, but whatever.) While it had over 215k on the odometer, it was hard to tell. The drivetrain was smooth and the inside and out of the car was well-taken care of with no rust whatsoever. The previous owner also threw in a set of brand new driver and passenger door panels, dash trim, shop manual, and electrical & vacuum diagram book with the purchase. Not bad!

As far as options go, it has most of the standard Signature equipment. It doesn't have the digital dash or leather seats, but that doesn't really bother me. It does have the carriage roof, which got annoying at times when the front part of it would fall down over the windshield. I ended up using paper clips to hold it up before finally super-gluing it into place. The car is also pretty stock except for the head unit and a 12" subwoofer. It also has some "Town Car" mudflaps on it that I like and what looks like a CB antenna (without a CB unit.)

I drove this car during my last two years of high school and put another 17k on during my two years of ownership (two years as of yesterday!) Despite the high mileage and ridiculous amount of parts I've had to put into it, I don't plan on parting with it! Many of the systems on the Lincoln are fairly simple and not really intimidating for an amateur like me to work on. Plus I love the styling too, it's unmistakable! I'd like to eventually buy another one someday, either as a DD or a project. I like the look of the 85-87 Grand Marquis a lot.

Rust free and running with decent paint I don't think 2 grand is that bad. Nice car all around.

Got any future plans for this car?

That thing is beautiful. I've always wanted a white or black 89 TC. I almost bought one just like yours with the digi dash and cd player.

Anyway congrats on that beautiful car!

Looks a lot like my 88, only I have the half vinyl roof. First thing I did to mine was convert it to dual exhaust, but used no mufflers. If you have to near future plans of performance upgrades, I highly suggest that since I gained a few mpg's all over, plus you don't have to listen to engine fan anymore.

I have two 1989 TCs. One of them I bought new. I love my TCs. If you take care if it, it will take care of you. $2K is not too much for a nice TC and your is very nice! If you have wrecking yards near you, I would stock up on parts while you can, especially stuff that normally breaks.

For now this car is staying stock, but I'd love to do some modernization upgrades over time like the 3g alternator, some new speakers, and replacing the interior lights with LEDs. Mechanically the car seems to be alright, I put in the brass TV bushing (old one literally crumbled when removing it) so I dodged a bullet there! Cosmetically it could use a new carriage top, interior detail, and better paint job (current paint is new but really cheap,) but that'll have to wait for now. Since it seems mechanically sound I plan on driving to at least 300,000 or more if I can.

Mainemantom - I'd LOVE to have two identical Town Cars! When did you buy your second one? I'd like to have a whole fleet of these cars while they're still relatively cheap.

I bought my second TC in 2001 on Ebay. Picked it up in Washington State and drove it to Ca. I have done a ton of work to it . It is a signature series White with Maroon interior, sun roof, leather etc. That TC is my wife's. (she drove it allot in Ca., almost never here in Maine) It has 155,000 miles on it. It is a backup winter car here. My TC is a base model, white with maroon leather. 235,000 miles. Looks near new.

Very nice, very clean looking Town Car! Those wheels were my favorite of the bunch that came stock on the Town Cars.

Thanks! According to the previous owner, this car originally came with wire spoke wheels, but he replaced them with the turbines. I'm glad he did.

The wires were a rather expensive upgrade option and they look good when in good shape, but by now most of them look like hell. The turbines hold up better and look a lot better than crusty wire spokes.

BTW, those aren't turbines, they are the lace spoke wheels, and its a Lincoln-only option. The turbines were also available but they were available on Ford and Mercury models too.

I miss driving this car! It's been in the shop for about two weeks now working on the problem with the electrical drain (shop is fixing it free of charge.) I went over to see the car today where it was parked in their back lot. It was supposed to be finished tomorrow morning but overnight some crackhead had cut the battery cables and stolen the battery right out of the car. Glad nothing else was stolen or damaged! Cops were called soon after. The shop will be buying me a new battery (hopefully more powerful than my last one) and repairing the damage. They probably won't be leaving the keys with their cars either.

I looked at the interior and it looks like the headliner magically rose back up again. I don't know if the fabric was tightened or glued into place, but it looks much better and I'm not going to argue!

I was thinking just that when I read the first post. THis is a good foundation for a hot rod or resto project.

Yep and although the center caps look just like the Turbines, they are different. Ask me how I know!

Nice looking TC there. I like the color combo. I don't think you did bad for 2K. Today most anything not rusty and running/driving is worth that.
