    In 89, one flasher feeds the turn signal side of the switch and the other flasher feeds the 4way side. I believe this deals with the four way drawing twice the power of the turn signals. Also you need one flasher to control the 4ways to make sure all four flash at the same rate. Given this I am stumped.

      open ground somewhere most likely, or an internal short in the motherfucker switch in the column sounds most likely.

        screwed multifunction switch. It directs the power from flashers. or the connections into the multifunction switch are not all good.

          Ok tried this: I unplugged both connectors from turn signal switch plugged the flasher in and it still flashed. I think im getting closer somewhere.

            Where do white with blue lines wires lead to from flashers? I tried putting 2 prong flashers in 3 prong connectors and if those wires are not connected the blinkers dont work.

              No white with blue in the 89 diagram except comming out of the turn signal switch. That goes to the right indicator on the dash plus the right front exterior signal and cornering lamp.

              The only way I think you could get flashers with the switch completely disconnected is if there is a short in the harness somewhere between the 4way flasher and the switch. Problem with that is that it would have to be shorted to 4 different wires for all four lights to flash.

              If the 86 wiring is different then......

                time to trace wire. definitely looks to be a short bwtween the fuse box and the multifunction switch. at least it's not a crap ton of wire to sift through.

                  this is for an 85, don't know if it's the same though. these are from a big book i have so i tried to take a pic of the pages (to big for scanner) hope this might help. if you need something different let me know.

                    I can not really read those pics, but is it two fuses to separate flashers then into a combined turn/4way switch assembly, then four separate hot outs from the switch to the four corners of the car?

                      yes, 1 fuse powers turn signal flasher and brake switch. the secound fuse powers 4-way flasher and supplies power to the gear shift neutral switch.

                        It would have to be a very special specific short to power all 4 flashers without the switch installed given that there are 4 wires out of the switch. Are there 4 hots out from the switch in that diagram?

                          the way i'm reading it there's 4 coming out of the switch, one for each corner of the car. if you save those pics to your computer then open with paint or what ever else you can read it better.

                              I found the problem it ended up being one of the smaller fuses under the steering column. I still don't know what are those 2 flashers are for (they are both are 3 prong and located/bolted up higher and being the fuse panel).
