In dash clock resets (won't keep time)

Hello. The in dash clock in our 1994 Grand Marquis GS won't keep time on the in-dash clock. It will keep it while the engine is running, but when the engine is turned off for at least a half an hour, the clock loses it's time and resets to 12:00, OR it loses time, HOURS of it. We have a brand new battery that cranks over everything good even in this cold whether, and the aftermarket radio we have installed keeps the time. Also it appears that the in dash clock sometimes loses power while driving. Sometimes turning off the headlights brings it back on. Sometimes it never comes back until the engine is restarted. What's happening?!

If you tap the clock does it come back to life? In which case you may simply have a loose connector on the back, or bad solder joints in the clock.
Otherwise, follow the wiring and looked for broken/chaffed wiring, when you put in the aftermarket radio, did you need to cut into any harnessess or use any of those useless scotch-lock connectors? If you did, redo those connections properly.

    Alex.
