Resurrecting from the dead- has anyone else done this? I don't want coils as stiff as speedways, but something stiffer than stock box police springs. I calculated taking half a coil off will result in the PI springs coming in around 800 LB/in. I wouldn't mind it slightly lower than stock height (only slightly). I don't want it too stiff but would like to improve handling slightly.

Any real world insights since 2014?

Also, anything matching for the rear?

      this ^^

I want to get some new springs for my box as well. im thinking at this point, new off the shelf springs cut to fit desired height might be best bang for the buck. i dont want stock and i think speedways may be too stiff. When i did my 82 originally, i cut appox. HALF of a coil off the original stock civilian fronts. the rear of the car had stock sagging coils as well, but i had air shocks, so i let air out of them to even it out. looked really nice on my 15x8's... 0 offset, wrapped in 235/70/15 tires. no rub, i snagged the pass. fender once, but it was my fault, and i know why, it was a freak scenario.

it now sits on explorer 16x7 teardrops wrapped in 235/60/16 and another HALF coil cut off stock. still no rub. overall id say 1.5-1.75 lower than stock. this will be as low as i go

The other issue is then matching the rear springs- I have a feeling the best way to go is have them custom made, a little shorter and proportionally stiffer. I know my police rear springs are something special- thicker coils than civilians, but definitely not wagon springs. No info on them

theres a sticky on here that ive read through several times regarding your run of the mill parts store springs. dont recall the OP, but it was quite detailed and i know there was detail on the spring rates.

Yeah that’s a great resource- it has P71 rear springs, but nothing on box police rear springs unfortunately

FWIW, and I know its a (slightly) different car, but I ran whale P71 rear springs in my '97 Town Car for awhile. They sat level and rode significantly better than whatever conversion springs it had when I got it, those made it ride like an unloaded HD truck. Stock whale CVLX springs were the last set I had in it before I reinstalled the air suspension, those rode great but sagged if I had a full tank of gas and forget about having rear seat passengers. I had a killer commute (70mi a day) at the time on some very crap freeways so I played around with rear springs a few times because what came with the car were too harsh.

Another thing to note: MOOG replacement '98-'02 front springs are known to sit way too high. So I would probably avoid using those. Stock '98-'02 LX/LS front springs would probably sit about right in a box. The front of the car is about the same weight if not slightly heavier and uses the same suspension geometry, but they are slightly firmer than box stuff. Dunno of they're still available new from Ford, I haven't looked for them in awhile.
