I'm thinking about giving it the Gears!

Thinking about replacing my blah blah 3.08 rear end gears in the '88 Town Car. I have a 1991 F-150 with 3.55 axle gears that I'm thinking about parting out come spring. Is it possible for me to use the gear set from the 31-spline rear axle in the truck for the 28-spline axle in the car? Or would I need to get a whole new ring and pinion set somewhere else?
If I have to obtain new gears, any suggestions from experience as to what gears are the best? I want to go 3.55 ideally, but even a 3.27 set would help wake the old girl up a little. Anything lower than 3.55 would be too steep for fuel conservation purposes.

If its an 8.8, the ring and pinion on the truck will work. The traction lock will not. If you're putting gears in it, make it limited slip while you're at it. If you have one already, rebuild it while its out.

It's all peg leg...but I'm OK with it as the way it is is, I have no clutches and such to worry about and I'm not concerned about launching or traction. I just want higher RPMs for better passing power, etc. My car is pretty good for hooking up instead of burning rubber anyway. I know the 3.55s will change that at least a bit, but meh
