    Ignition Lock Cylinder Question

On an '87 GM, the lock cylinder has a wire with a connector. Is that for the door chime or does it have another function? Still got the original lock in but curious. Looks like you'd have to remove at least the lower shroud to replace the cylinder (for the wire) unlike the later GM's where you can just put a Philips screwdriver in the hole, push the button up and remove the entire lock (just did that yesterday on my '95). Yea, the wire is for the "key in ignition" chime. And yes, you need the bottom half of the shroud, to gain access. You will need a very skinny screw driver or pick, to press the pin.
