I should also add that some VWs and Audis have four ball joints per side, they have two upper and two lower arms per side. Standard rubber bushing on the frame side, ball joint on the knuckle. Talk about fun to work on...

I think I have that pictured, seems like a lot of stress on the parts if you're basically torquing the wheel against the arms as you turn it to force it to deflect. Seems like the control arm bushings would have to be very compliant, and would suffer fairly horribly from such use.

On the knuckle side things aren't too bad, I'd imagine the loads these ball joints see during steering are nothing compared to the shock loads when hitting a damaged road hard and fast. The bushings tho, yup you got that right, they are semi-hollow to allow for sideways flex. But I've seen one car that had the uppers all cracked and such, and I don't recall the upper arms actually being dislocated with respect to their mounting bolts and brackets, so I suspect there's more going on in them bushings than just rubber. Never did get a chance to rip into that mess tho, but frankly I think I'm better off not being too intimate with it.

Some recent shots sporting its winter attire:

Looking into purchasing a real camera that will allow me to take photos like the ones above.

I think a Sony Alpha 6300 camera was used with a wide angle lens. Its a full sensor chip camera and supposedly very good. I still gotta figure all this stuff out before I commit to anything.

I still can't get past how "new off the assembly line" this car looks all the time...

Did you go and park next to your old Escort just to make it feel bad?

Yay. Did an oil change this morning and discovered that the drivers side motor mount is leaking oil. I know what the next job for this car will be.

Motor mounts (left, right) and tranny mount.

Have to remove exhaust in order to squeeze the motor mounts outs. Luckily the manifolds can stay put.
