curious if id be wasting money to do the ford racing 8.8 master rebuild kit first? anyone know?

Master rebuild kit when the gears go in, makes total sense to replace all bearings and seals when you have it apart anyway so you don't have to go in again for awhile.

Yes from the "what is the point" sense.
Yes do everything at the same time, bearings, seals, gears, posi carrier, (if it is not already posi) and axles on inspection.
If the car has posi you probably want new clutches in there.
It may be a good idea to open the rear, pull the axles and inspect them in advance of any new parts install project. This way you can have good axles on hand if they are needed. 28 spline are phased out in 05 or 06? 31 is much more readily available. You can get a new 31 spline Ford carrier, not possible for 28 spline unless you find NOS. You certainly get a used 28 spline unit and new 28 spline axles. Either way for axles I say get USA made (not Dorman) if you can. Get a posi and go with 3.73's. I did the 4.11 route, specifically for spinning my tires. It's pretty bad on the highway and will cut your fuel mileage in half. 3.73's are about as low as I'd personally go on a DD79 Grand MarquisComment
