Ok, so you can pick up the plug kit at Summit or hopefully somewhere else (I don't know if ROckauto might have them ( i will look)

I will have to carefully make sure the pan is not bent or tweeked.

But aren't the bolt holes supposed to be bent outward (facing away from the tranny) as to insure a tight seal?

Get the plug kit at any auto parts store. The moroso trans pan kit you get at summit... Just make sure the pan looks uniform, no ridiculously low spots and it should not leak.

The pan should be basically flat around the lip, except for the bit stamped in there between the bolt holes. What tends to happen though is the area right around the bolts gets pushed up from cranking down the bolts too much. It also bends from lowering the pan at one end to drain it while it hangs from the bolts at the other end. Make the areas around the bolt holes not be sticking up proud of the rest of the pan rim and it'll be OK. It doesn't have to have flatness tolerance to thousandths of an inch but it needs to not look screwed up if you lay a ruler across it either.

What is the proper torque spec for the tranny pan?

            Is it 10-14 ft-lbs?

I think it's supposed to be 10-12 ft-lbs. The valve body uses inchpounds though.

Hey gang. Just a thought here. He says it's at the right front of the pan. Guess what else is there? The transmission dipstick tube! Those are another source of leaks on transmissions. I would check to make sure the tube is seated, and that the seal isn't dried out. It's a lot more common than people realize. I've had to replace more then my fair share on the vans/buses I work on all day.

how hard is it to replace that dipstick seal?

I think you just remove the dipstick, then the seal pops out. I want to say its just a rubber grommet. Trans dipstick requires one of the bellhouse bolts to be removed in order to pull it.
