Door speakers on an 86 crown vic?

Im just wondering if i can simply install speakers in my front doors on my 86 crown victoria because there is cut outs in the door frame for what looks like a 6.5'' speaker could fit but i wouldnt know how or where to wire a simple coaxial speaker, but any help is appreciated on how to do it. Right now i have an aftermarket head unit with sonys in the dash and rear deck.

Yes. If it doesn't have speakers there, there will be a cutout to mount them at least. I've never seen one that did not have speakers though, so someone probably removed them for some reason. The wires are probably already there so fish around in the door. There are dashboard speakers too.

6.5 is correct. You'll have to snake the wire through the rubber grommet on the hinge side of the door into the car. From there, just feed it up to behind your radio and wire it into the front channels.

Some of them came without. I recall seeing some without speakers there. Be sure to figure out a way to keep them dry. The ones that are flush mounted to the door will get wet. Try to find a 90-91 and use the mounts and covers that they use. It kicks the speaker out from the door a bit so they don't get wet. Also, if you find a late 80's or so Escort and I think Rangers, they have a cover that goes behind the speaker that covers the top half so water runs off it.

if you had a base model then no speakers for you. when i got my 82 Merc in 2011 the original owner bought the car with a factory ford radio delete plate. still in there when i bought it after 30 years no speaker wire and solid door panels as well. the studs that hold the 6x9's in the rear still had paint on the threads. but i also have the strippy base model.

when i did the doors the back of the panel had a perforated shape for the speaker holes, you just need to slit the vinyl/carpet whatever you have on yours and fold it back. 6.5's fit perfect in the doors with no mods. only thing is you may have to make your own screw holes depending on brand of speaker. my Sony's didnt match to factory screw holes.

I have several pairs of the factory speaker grates that fit in the door panels. LMK what color if you are interested. Some say "PREMIUM SOUND". WagonMan

Thanks for all the replys and info, the car must have had a stripped radio package due to the original radio being just an am/fm no cassette or anything extra. the next time i get the door apart i got to look but i just had my driver apart and didnt recall seeing any loose connectors for a speaker, so i guess i have to run a wire from the speakers thru the grommet right into the head unit?

My 91 is the only car of mine that came from the factory with speakers in the front doors. All of my cars have had the AM/FM/Cassette, non premium sound, no amplifier radio. All of them had the connector for a speaker in each door, but I only have experience with 87 and up so it could be possible and 86 and down don't have the connector in the door already. IIRC the connector is taped up and not just dangling so you may need to reach up and around to find the connector.

You'll also need to cut the door panel to uncover the speaker, that can be fun, or find a matching door panel from a junkyard car that already has speakers. I don't recall if the no-speaker door panel was perforated which would provide an built in template for what needs to be cut. I think it wasn't but I haven't done this swap in over a decade.

ok that gives me hope that the connectors are there lol. I was just in the driver side door replacing the window guide bushings and wasnt really focusing on finding connectors so but i didnt replace the bushings on the passenger side yet so when i do that ill look.

I did notice the back of the door panel had a pop out template so it should be simple if i just get a speaker connected

Ok, I couldn't remember if there was already a template there or not. Once the cardboard circle (or square?) for the speaker is popped out cutting the carpet/fabric material on the face of the panel should be easy enough without worrying about cutting way too big of a whole.

Yeah the template will for sure make cutting easy. My main worry is checking to make sure there is a connector, that would make things so much easier

I might be interested in a pair of light grey speaker grates when i finish getting the speakers in or find out if there is existing connectors... but might not be until weather gets warmer. how much would you sell a pair for if you have light grey?

This is what I did, minus the covers. I only used the angled bezel, the cover won't work unless you drill/dremel out two small rectangular holes in the metal of the inner door skin for the two mounts on the cover that pop-in place. The angled bezels also point the speakers at your face instead of your feet - bonus.
The cutout in the door panel is rectangular and is smaller than the speaker. Factory just had a little plastic grill over the hole that barely showed the speaker. I didn't find any speaker wires in my doors, but it's best to re-wire the speakers right to the head unit anyway.

yeah if 6.5'' speakers are going in it makes no sense to have those small rectangular cut outs guide it, i might as well cut to match the speakers.

yeah i can see in your sig you have an 85 vic and if you say that you didnt have speaker wires then i most likely do not but i will check. Well re-wiring to the head unit sounds like a ton of fun lol
