    Rimming It

    I was thinking that I wanted to put 17 inch rims on my 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis.

    I was told that there was a certain offset I needed and whatnot. Does anyone know what the appropriate range is?

    What style of rims are you thinking?

      Um. I dunno. 17" ones.

      Nice, but not excessive. No spinners, I think those look dumb.

        hugely off topic here, but are you aware that the term "rimming" means something specific, and not at all related to automobiles? If not, I encourage you to drop by urbandictionary.

          My head exploded when I tried to figure that out.

          And, no. Now that you've shattered my innocence, I refuse to look it up. I was simply looking for rims for my car. Nothing more.

            lol... mmmm, the taste of car exhaust and rust, sounds like a new flavor for the jelly belly 'gross' line.

            I'm still waiting for somebody to put reproduction 17" Magnum 500 wheels on an older box. This would make me tingly in my bad-touch zone

                          17x7 w 3.5" backspace will do the trick. (zero offset, hub mating surface at the rim centerline).

                              Turbines only come in 15" sizes, and tires in this size, while usually cheap, are going to get more and more rare as manufacturers move to supporting newer vehicles' 16-20+ in. sizes.

                              Go looking today for 13" or 14" tires, hard to find anything that's not a questionable Chinese deathtrap. Also, go find some decent wet-performing whitewalls or ANY performance whitewall tires, they really don't exist.

                              17s can be a bit oddball sizing as far as being pricier from what I've read, 16s are still your best bet for the taller sidewall that's more comfortable and lessens the chances of having your wheels damaged on our underfunded, constantly deteriorating roads. But that's just my opinion.
