so I take it from posts elsewhere the trans is dicked? If it won't shift past second, thats usually a direct clutch failure. Losing reverse isn't typically something you see but if the direct clutch is wiped there isn't much to do short of overhaul it. There might be some other internal fuckery going on, but it doesn't much matter since you're planning a trans swap anyway.

Yes. She likes to neutral out when shifting to third. Shifts 1-2 just fine.

In regards to that other thread about AOD torque converters, how weird would it be if you pulled the trans and found the inner input shaft (the one that drives 3rd and 4th gear) sheared?

It might be a fun experience to do an AOD teardown once I pull it. You know, just for fun.

Mine did that before it was rebuilt, shifted 1-2 fine and reverse, but no 3rd or OD. Mine wouldn't even attempt to shift into 3rd, just stuck in 2nd. I've lost OD before, and that would just try to shift into OD but miss and go into neutral but not the case when I only had 1st and 2nd. I should call the builder and ask what exactly went wrong, probably lost the tv bushing.

1 and 2 with no attempt to upshift is usually a direct clutch failure. Could be caused by low pressure and slippage. The way the AOD works, its almost like a pair of two speed transmissions with a transfer case between them. 1 and 2 drives from the turbine in the torque converter, 3 and 4 drive direct from the converter shell. The direct clutch is what switches between those two.

Ordered another part. I have a braided stainless hydraulic clutch line on the way from Rosehill Performance. I will be getting a lot of stuff from there for my project. Plus it will be nice to have a hydraulic clutch!

Less of a part, more of a statement of fact.

I am thinking I would like a set of tan cloth mustang buckets in there.

Yet another thing to add to the parts list, I suppose.

So, I has another rare part to add to the list... Thanks to my best friend Adam (splorer4.0) I am now in possession of Mr Marquis' old Mercury Police Instrument cluster!

Oh, so THAT's what them things look like? I know of only one person that has one of those, yours would be the second one. Pretty neat, and IMHO looks better than the Crown Vic 140mph speedometer.
