Is there a way to identify the e7 heads while the engine is fully assembled & in the engine bay?

Not really. E6 you can ID from the goofy recessed spark plug hole, but otherwise I believe the E5 and E7 are pretty much indistinguishable from anything else or from each other. They're pretty near the same casting anyway as far as I understand it.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Ok cool, so if it takes the standard HO spark plug it is either the e7 or e5.

The casting is on the underside of the head on the intake side. with the lower intake manifold removed you can use a mirror.
