Thanks I appreciate it. I'm surprised people are excited about this car.

    The poor thing is overloaded.

Just to be clear, it's not just the intake weighing it down. It's also loaded with half a tool box worth of tools and 2 Mustang frame rails in the lower compartment, plus a rolling jack with some tools and a few little parts.

These are the spoils of yesterday's junkyard run.

I was smart and kept the quick connects on, will be using the barb ends to mate my fuel hoses to it.

Nice haul. Where did you go to pick up the parts? I am always looking for new junkyards to try out.

They had like 4 or 5 complete-ish EFI boxes and a whole bunch of Aeros and Whales.

Keep in mind, the cars are sitting in the dirt so anything underneath the body is pretty much inaccessible. I wanted to grab an axle out of them, but alas.

Awesome to see your SEFI upgrade coming together. I've never had the (dis?)pleasure of driving a CFI Box, but if it's as gutless as it sounds to be, the SEFI setup should make it feel like a different car.

Firstly, kudos GMGT for nominating this guy/car for POTM, it's well worthy. Secondly, Wolfy, sound observation and I also wonder how depressing the CFI versus the SEFI. I CAN compare 2bbl carb fox mustangs with flat tappets to SEFI roller cars and it's totally night and day. Both off-idle torque and top-end power and dramatically different, and they pull so much harder. Fuel economy is also notably better so there's very little if anything that makes the earlier crap seem attractive.

Thanks for the info. I see it is about the same distance as the Harry's in West Hazelton that used to be packed with boxes 8 years ago. Now they move the Ford section and had basically nothing last time I was there.

You know, my '85 with CFI was a lot like my '88 with it's SEFI. I never figured out what rear end was in the '85 but I'm guessing it wasn't a 3.23 like my TC, probably a 2.73 or something even lamer. Like you mentioned about off idle torque, the '88 certainly feels better from a stop but that '85 would roast that one tire pretty good if I nailed it. None of this surging shit when cold either, my '88 does this shit where if you just slightly press & hold the gas the thing surges until you give it more gas. Ashley's 89 does it too. NFC what it is. My '85 was annoying when cold. They don't have an IAC to modulate idle nor do they compensate for the car being cold like SEFI cars do. So the thing has to idle around 1,600 RPM (Ford wanted it to idle at like 2,100 IIRC) when cold It has a little vacuum controlled dashpot that will adjust idle but they don't react very fast and often it was goofy and would bump the idle too high for my liking when engaged. I'd mess with another '85 if I could though.

When I first bought my car, I owned it for about 2 weeks with CFI on it. It.Was.Dreadful. It was all out of whack, would buck and sputter until it got above 3K and then it would just SCREAM and go NOWHERE. So. CFI is junk, this wagon will be ever more sweetness when converted to SEFI, and of course a manual. Which I will keep badgering on about since that's in the plan for the project.

I do like how CFI cars sound with exhaust. They have a choppy, carb sound.

I think all lopo's kinda sound different, on account of the firing order. With my exhaust, my car kinda sounds like my buddy's shitbox old mustang did with dumped slowmasters. I know what you mean though, they do sound a little more grumbly. Has anyone done better heads but kept lopo firing order? I'd love to hear what one sounds like opened up a bit. When I did heads on my mustang it dramatically changed the way the car came on the pipe. Guess i'll find out in about a month...

So what's the deal with the exhaust anyway? I'm sick of my flexing mufflers.

I heard you can run mustang shorties and H pipes. But what about the rear section of the exhaust?

See the recent posts on the project boulevard cruiser. Ivan just did some tails the other day.

I pieced an exhaust together the first time I put in the duals. When it started rotting I patched it a couple of times then I bit the bullet and sprung for a custom stainless. That was a few years ago and was $1,200 with cats and takeoff mustang mufflers. The tips were extra. No one knows the future but if you tend to run cars for a long time and you are in a salt zone this could be more economical in the long run.

Boy oh boy, it sure has been a long time since I made any updates. Alright then, let's dump some pictures out here.

To start off, this was a few months back, took a little expedition out to bumble-fuck Connecticut to meet our resident hooligan, Bobcat.

Traded a MINT condition hood for some labor. While there we kicked shit and goofed around with our cars. There is even a video of us driving in the Tudor at the speed above the posted speed limit (gotta find it). For the first time ever I was able to see the actual size difference between a Wagon and a Tudor, it was not a significant one. All in all it was a fun day.

                              More to come

Later on, made a trip out to Harrys U Pull It in Hazleton, PA. At the time they had like 9 Box Panthers on hand. I have never seen them have that many in stock. I had to check it out.

Sadly I didn't pull much from the Boxes, however I did end up snatching up a rear end from 95 GM (at the time believed to be from a 97). It was an air ride, anti-lock rear end and sadly it was an open diff as well. But at the time I didn't have much of a choice. My axles were starting to make a little too much noise for my liking. I needed a new rear end.

                                The haul

                                Axles were mint

                                Can it be done?

Of course it can be, but probably shouldn't be

Before I knew it, my bank account lost some volume

To everyone who doesn't know this, 97 brake parts do not fit 95 rear ends. If you think you have a 97 rear end, double check.

You cannot prove that the whole process took well over a month

                                Removed

                                Inserted
(Everybody always told me to make sure to get non-air ride and non-ABS rear end, but it fit just fine. I had to use rubber isolators on the rear end itself because the 'cup' is a bit smaller than the spring. An isolator fills in the gap perfectly, just like up top. I was able to retain my T section of the brake line and just cut the hard line on either side until the caliper hoses could reach them comfortably. Then some flaring and some bleeding and it was all done. I should probably install a later model proportioning valve as well, but so far it doesn't feel any different.)

                                Stance

To anyone who doesn't know this as well, 95 rear brake calipers DO NOT clear 14in steelies. Run bigger wheels dummies. However if you are a real dummy like me and insist on keeping 14s because they have new tires one them, then you will need spacers. Make sure to get hub centric spacer, Autozone spacers cause vibration, ask me how I know.

Currently wrestling with wiring in an 89 radio with a football amp, but holy shit the rear speaker wiring on the wagon is weird. There are 3 wires going to the rear speakers, but no combination of mixing them with the 2 output and 2 return wires on the amp side has yielded both speakers working at the same time. I will have to run my own wires. I dread this.
