With my 5.4 being close to completion I still haven't test fitted the hood. Thinking ahead in case I run into clearance issues, has anyone done a cowl hood on one of these cars? What did you use for a donor?

most folks I've seen do a cowl hood have welded in steel on the body line and adjusted the bracing on the bottom as needed. Obviously with a steel hood. Haven't seen it done with the aluminum ones. Then there was a massive fiberglass one I think I remember seeing... it was kinda rough.

I took a jigsaw and cut a square out of a JY hood (from '86 Country Squire). I found miscellaneous strips of steel in the basement and was going to run them around the perimeter of the cut; then stack them accordingly under the stock bracing. My Dad's friend had some random length 90* steel that he used to simplify the job; made it stronger too. RIght now, I am in the process of epoxying the 6-pack hood scoop and then follow up with aluminum rivets.
