If it was the EGR valve it wouldn't idle well or not even at all. A quick test of that would be to pop the vacuum line going to it off, cap it and then apply some vacuum to it. You'll know if it opens [and isn't clogged] if the idle changes by becoming stumbly and such.1985 LTD Crown Victoria - SOLD

Crank sensor is right behind the timing marker. make sure it's plugged in properly. They rarely go bad unless they get damaged.
