Yeah, I like seeing knowledgeable, skilled people work on stuff and make it better/like new.

Did they give you any idea of when the injection pump would be done? I know you gave em like a year haha

You just clean the surfaces no scuffing before paint? Just asking.

I scrubbed them with a Scotchbrite pad as part of the cleaning process, so I guess that counts as scuffing. Its not exactly smooth finish stuff, so its got plenty to bite on already.

No ETA on the pump, but I didn't ask either. Dropped the injectors off today, but the dude I was working with wasn't there to ask.

It does count. I do that quite frequently.

The injection pump looks very intimidating.

Kinda yes kinda no. Its the "brains" of the engine, but other than lack of access space around it there really isn't that much to putting it in. 2 bolts to the timing cover, and the rear bracket has 3 bolts into the plate it sits on. Fuel line in, fuel line out, and a handful of vacuum lines. Timing it isn't really that difficult either. It uses a dial indicator, and the process is essentially to rotate the engine until you find where the indicator bottoms out, zero the gauge, then rotate and lock the engine at TDC and read the dial. If its not whatever it should be, adjust accordingly. Access to the bolts to make adjustments is sort of annoying. Its the 2 nuts on the cover, plus three on the rear bracket have to loosen so the pump can rotate. There is a more official way involving a special timing light that plugs into the diag connector, but I don't have that.

Update to the JBL saga. I have successfully installed a 1986 JBL amp and head unit without any wiring changes to the car. I don't have any pics of the radio end, but essentially I just moved the wires in the connectors so they matched the 1987 connectors that were in the car. The original stuff had been hacked out, and the radio John gave me with the connectors was a slightly later model. Whatever, plugs is plugs. The radio also has been modified with an aux input that lives underneath of it. Unfortunately when the cable is plugged in I lose some visibility on the climate control, but its not a big deal.

Some while ago I had modified the premium sound rig to be a 4 channel setup vs the stock 2 channel. Originally only the front speakers went through the amplifier. Very minor wiring changes made it a 4 channel, which honestly didn't change much but it did allow for fairly easy JBL install.

Enter the 1986 Towncar JBL amplifier. Instead of the small conductor shielded input cable, this one uses standard wires. It wants 5 input wires, a ground, plus one for each speaker. Handily this is exactly what a 4 channel Premium Sound amp wants. Output is 8 wires, two per speaker, also the same as the Premium. The only thing that truly differs is the connectors themselves, but thats nothing a little ingenuity can't resolve. I made an adapter with sockets to match the plugs on the car and plugs to match the sockets on the amp. Connect things between them as appropriate and away we go. Mounting used 2 existing holes and I had to drill one. It sounds a heck of a lot better than it did, but I can revert it to the Premium Sound if I choose to for whatever reason.

Nice. Wish I had kept the original radio in my vic.

yeah, it was one of the obviously bad parts. I'm really not aiming for this to ever be showroom but if I can replace the awful parts with decent I'll take it.

That is why I went thru the trouble of finding new front bumper chrome strips and a new front grille badge and hood ornament for my Town Car. The car is ugly, the front end is the wrong color, but having the missing/broken hood ornament and grille badge and badly delaminating impact strips REALLY bothered me.
