Well that explains enough right there. And if thats his cup of tea, he's got no buisness bagging on the turbo Lincoln being slow.

Check out his fawning, drooling review of a 1987 Plymouth Horizon. He's just a hipster who's really into cars. I don't really fault him for his taste, however, his proclivities lead him to getting a lot of his conclusions wrong on a lot of different cars. His Fox body Mustang review is ridiculous.

Yugo was a Fiat, the Omni was actually Chrysler product, and the predecessor to the K platform.

I bought a few of those Horizon/Omni vehicles. I think the most I spent for one was $125. One step above a Yugo. or the 4 door model the Wego. (joke)
In the 80s-90s those were good for someone just wanting basic transportation. I bought them to flip. I think the Reliant/Aries and the Horizon/ Omni were made at the same time period. Chrysler Corp was trying to keep from going bankrupt. Then Chrysler struck gold with the mini van.

There were several cars that were basically a trapezoid with a nose. The Escort from that time was also the same basic shape, so was the Rabbit. Not sure why late 70s, early 80s economy car designers decided that was the profile that small cars needed to be, but there it is. Maybe it was inspired by the Gremlin, which also has more or less that side profile.

I don't really dislike the K cars, but I don't really find them all that interesting either. The idea of stuffing a turbo four or a V6 with a 5 speed into a Reliant seems kind of fun but not quite fun enough to actually put the effort into doing. I think I'd like to drive one though.

friend had a Laser with a turbo 2.2. It was really laggy and then it definitely pulled to one side when it came on. There are probably ways to minimize that, doubt it would ever really be awesome but having too much motor in an otherwise dead stock looking 4 door Reliant or Aries would be fun just because its silly. Its the kind of thing that would have made sense to build 15 years ago when all of the donor cars were essentially free. Now they are either rotted, too expensive, or both.

One of the Chrysler mini cars that was different is the Dodge Rampage. It was a pickup based on the Dodge Omni. The Navy had a few of these for putting around the base.

a turbo Rampage would be fun, but a V6 N/A would be more practical and honestly probably still plenty fast enough.

I think I'll pass on that. =-) To each his own, but if your doing "regular car reviews" I expect some sort of objectiveness to the subject, with a comparison to his pet cars to feed his personal bias.

Omni's, I had one of those for a week as a loaner car (I've also had a K-car as a loaner car for about a month while insurance companies where battling), the omni actually moved reasonably well, but even at less than a year old it suffered from the time period corroding aluminum bumpers around the bolts. What it is is a good commuter, but obviously it ain't my cup of tea as a car to just hop in and drive around.
