Hey there, just picked up my '87 Crown Vic

Hey y'all! new to these things but long time ford fan, just picked up with sweet super clean yet neglected '87 crown vic. she has some fuel delivery issue, but I am sure I will get it diagnosed and fix it shortly.

she is a little rough on the outside, but i'm convinced by the condition of the interior and the way everything looks it really has 78k on it! it's so unmolested! the title is still in the name of the man that bought it from Ford.
any suggestions or info is always welcome! I am going to need new tires soon, and i'm a little curious if I can run anything wider than stock and what it would take to do that. don't want to buy tires twice if I don't have to. other than that, planning on keeping most of it stock and just making it into a nice running driving car again.

      Welcome

What sort of symptoms are you having exactly? If the fuel pump doesn't kick on for 2 seconds with the key in "on", check the inertia switch in the trunk. If that isn't tripped and you can confirm power at the switch, the pump is probably dead. If it sat a good while thats not surprising. They seem to crap out when soaked in old nasty gas for a long time.

I haven't gotten a chance to really dig in and diagnose it. I only had time to turn it over and establish if there was anything really wrong with it. It seems fine other than no fuel delivery. I'll be able to diagnose it more accurately when it gets here after the 1st. Good idea to check the inertia switch. Thanks!

          Welcome!

Nice looking Vic there. Another thing on the fuel delivery issue: if you can hear the fuel pump doing its thing but have little to no fuel pressure, it could be possible that the fuel hose between the pump and the hanger outlet has cracked allowing the fuel to be pumped right back into the tank.

You can see the hose in the picture below from rockauto.com:

Wow, I noticed the hose in photos before but never thought that could happen. Makes sense. Another good thing to keep in mind!

              Welcome.

Looks like someone had the back seat top covered which is a good sign that someone liked the car at one point.

As far as tires, you can get away with as much as a 235/70-15 on the front and a 255/70-15 on the back. The 255s are really too much for the stock rim. But the 235s are a good choice all the way around if you’re looking for an upsize. The police cars came with 225/70 which is also an option, and my personal favorite.

The interior looks like it would clean right up.

Texas? If so, at least it won't be rusty.

Looks like it even has the little black cap on the front of the upper intake, which usually isn't there on high mileage cars.

Make sure the TV bushing isn't all crumbled before you try and drive it.

You think I could get away with stock rims and 235/70-15s? that would be great if I could just reuse them. I was thinking it may be wiser to go with a set of 16s for if I do a brake upgrade. having a hard time tracking down appropriate aftermarket 16" steelies though.

yep, Texas. no rust, just UV damage as usual. I will definitely take a look at that TV bushing, good call on that!

Try local craigslist for some 16 or 17" rims. Most Mustang and Panther up to 02 will fit fine. You can always ask here before pulling the trigger. Smart to plan ahead for the big brakes. Those plus a big rear sway, good shocks and tires will make it a different car. Upgrade the rears to disk when they need service.
