Am I the only one who thinks Ford used the most awkward badge placement on the trunk lids of those? Mercury, Grand Marquis and LS all use different fonts.

I have always hated the speedo on these cars.......the steering wheel cuts directly across and is impossible to see your speed without craning your head.......the LTD speedo is much better!

Yeah, almost look like someone did them after the fact or they're afterthoughts. Kinda like the "Lincoln" badging on '89 Town Cars. You had the nice script font on the fenders but then the updated Comic Sans like font of "Lincoln" on the rear and front. With the Mercury, I figure the badges would looks better if placed toward the outside edges, not inside like that.

Maybe the trunk was damaged or repainted when it was near new. Lid doesn't line up. Badges are not in correct position.

That's what I was thinking but thought I've seen them like this before.

That’s definitely the way I’ve seen them. I think it has to do when the LS trim became a thing when all Panther Marquis models became Grand Marquis and they needed to differentiate between the regular and the better optioned models. However, the LS badge looks like Ford went over to the Topaz parts bin and just slapped the LS trim on the Grand Marquis and said “Good enough!”

I wouldn’t doubt the parts bin LS badge at all.
