Cabin Air filter Mod Lincoln Town Car 2011 back to 1981?

I am not sure of the date range that this will work for. I have seen pics of a 98 and it will work up to 11. If anyone knows when the TC air intake changed please post it.

I did not invent this. A fellow in Lincolnsonline handle 98TC-Cartier posted it back in 2011.

At least up to 11 Town Cars did not come with a cabin air filter. This fellow found one that almost fits. 1999-2010 Jeep grand Cherokee. ATP CF134 or Hastings AFC1229 or Wix 24903. I bought a on sale GKI CF1062 for $3.62 because I wanted to see it work before thinking about a possibly better quality filter.

It took me about 1/2 hour to do the task including vacuuming the screen that sits below the new filter.

    Here is the jeep filter.

The cowl cover is really easy, unlike the Ford or Merc where you have to remove the wipers and the whole cover. On the Lincoln you just need to remove the small right hand section which is held in by two long plastic screws with #1 Phillips heads. The end one is a minor pain as it is located close to the hood.

Then pull back the weather strip and remove the panel. You will see a rectangular metal framed hole with a screen at the bottom. That is the intake. It took a vacuum or maybe a blower to get it clean. You may note that the two narrow ends are not square in the vertical plane. In that way it is a trapezoid. I tried to slope my handiwork to match the frame on the side I cut.

I sliced off the filter medium to the 13 & 1/4" length and wrapped a bit of the paper outer frame around the end and glued it together. Used tape to hold it while drying. I am very happy with this particular glue for general purpose.

You can see in the previous post that it all fit reasonably well.

Another fellow did it by cutting some filter foam to fit and placing it in there.

Replacement of cowling cover is easy make sure you match up the two locating points in the front and get the two plastic screws into their plastic nuts so the cowl is held flush to the windscreen

Why Fomoco did not offer a cabin filter is beyond me.

I hope one or more of you cna verify how far back in model years this will work.
Then an admin can correct the heading

The pollen has been very heavy this year so I am already happy I did this.

Wish the Fords & Mercs were this easy.

Good write up. I'll have to look into doing this, as wife suffers with very bad pollen allergies.

This is for Town Car not GM or CV.

I just set everything with the vent closed. Thinking about modding the Expy for that function as well.

The 2000 MGM has the two piece cover the newer MGM like 2011 for sure has the one piece.

I took this cover off while I am considering removing the front windshield for a possible roof panel replacement , when I get time I will take better pictures of the screen area to see what it would take to add a filter.

              Thanks for sharing this post.

The thing that concerns me is the small surface area of your modded filter, it seems like you will need to replace it often and the air flow may suffer even with a good filter.

I guess as long as the Air conditioning does not freeze up and the car stays cool that is all that matters.

I suggest this gasket while you are in there. They fail even when left alone. Also they look good and still leak so just do it.
