The hand test doesn't produce any heat. I want to see if there is power to it.

Multimeter. Black lead on one contact, red lead on the other. Check for resistance. If you get OL, the grid is broken. Not sure what the value of the grid is supposed to be though. I would expect less than 1K ohm. To check if power is getting to it, in volts mode, black lead on a good body contact (I usually use the striker bolt for this one) and then red lead on the grid contact. I think the passenger side on boxes is the +, but I could be wrong.
