The MEG (My 86 LTD Crown Victoria Coupe)

I have been keeping a secret of sorts. Some of you knew, some of you didn't. But here's the story.

About a few months ago, I was scrolling through Facebook on my phone and came across a feeler ad for an 86 Coupe Vic in Texas. I was playing around with the idea to possibly get it. I started talking with the owner and one thing led to another and we ended up agreeing on a price and a date for me to go and pick up the car. After some research I decided that it probably wasn't the best idea to go and drive a 31 year old vehicle back from Wichita Falls, Texas, and found that it was cheaper to have it shipped to me via a carrier. After being dicked around by a shipping company who promised me my car at a (too good to be true) price of 625$, I ended up spending double that to get the car picked up and brought to me. On Saturday the 28th of July, the car was picked up by car carrier to be delivered to me. just a few days later on the 31st, the car was brought to me.

Here are some pictures of the day it arrived. I parked her next to Vicky. One of the first things I did to her was install an NOS hood ornament to replace the missing one. Note the awesome yellowtastic original plastic headlights, and bumper stickers galore!!

The following night, after registering it, took it to work to look over it, fixed a vacuum leak and installed a 3G alternator that I had sitting on an engine.

Attached below are pictures of a few days later where Gadget73 breaks out his Hoppy Headlight aimer and aligns the plastic-tastic headlights. i must say, even in their reduced output, when aligned properly, I can see pretty well. Just imagine when i replace them!

That night, we also fixed the passenger window motor, replaced the passenger speaker, repaired the broken ATC mode select switch, and cleaned the contacts on the radio and the tripminder! No more crackly radio and easy to push tripminder buttons!

Does the coupe match the sedan interior color (are they fraternal twins lol)?

Looks pretty nice from the pics. Any surprises from buying a car long distance other than the trouble with the first shipping company?

The underpinnings of that thing are fantastic to behold. No rust on the bottoms of the doors, and the frame is excellent. Its got the dealer rustproofing treatment and it really worked.

                  Very nice!

I have bought a few vehicles from salt free climates, all sight unseen, and have never been disappointed.

Cheapest shipping companies are not the way to go. They dented the roof on my white tudor in shipment.

I personally do not find the shipping cost to be a deterrent at all, especially given how mint the vehicles I have bought have been. I think its a no brainer.

Porno red interior. I need to grab some interior shots. It's got the leather seats, they are really dried out. But not ripped. The dash pad is original and in near perfect condition. There is some fading on the top of the back seat and the carpeting behind the back seat. I'll have to get some interior pics soon.

I had a vacuum leak from the thermal blower lockout switch, as the car has ATC so it would default to HOT defrost upon acceleration. I immediately fixed that. But I am still losing vacuum since when the car is turned off the system slowly loses it's vacuum. I'll have to dig around later to figure that out. The car probably would've made the drive home with no issues. Car drives nice. It is a gutless wonder of course. It's a LOPO with 2.73 open rear. That will be receiving a 3.27 trak loc from another car that I've decided to get rid of due to body and frame rot taking its toll on the car.

The A/C is ridiculously cold in this thing. It's a retrofitted system but the damn thing pushes out 45 degree air sitting at idle. That's friggin awesome!

The vacuum lines under the intake are original. I saw the MAP sensor line and if I look too hard it might break lol. I'll eventually address those. I may HO swap it as I have all of the necessary parts from the other car. The long term plan is a 351w. Possibly a 4r70w as well later on... I already have a short block with rotating assembly. I need to send it out to the machine shop and have it looked over to make sure it's worth rebuilding. It was abused by the previous owner with a turbo... Though if the block is no good, the cam and all of the other parts make up for how much i paid for it.
