    Steering brand parts

What is a good steering brand for 1987 cv wagon or do I just use ford motorcraft

As long as it has grease fittings I'm usually happy with whatever parts I get. Tie rod sleeves work fine as long as they're not thin. Nice beefy ones are where it's at. Most of the stuff I like is Moog or very similar.

Lately every manufacturer I've used have been hit and miss. Even reputable brands that made great parts several years ago now put out junk. For a safe bet Motorcraft is probably best. Moog or Raybestos are probably safe bets but I would visually inspect each one and decide which one is better.

TRW at one time was good stuff too, but as MrBean says, its all hit and miss anymore.

Someone told me moog introduced an economy/(cheap garbage) line. Many companies do that these days. So you need to make sure it is not a low end line part.

I've had bad luck with Mevotech stuff, so I stay away from them now. Had one bum part from Moog (ball joint failed within a year) but other than that one part, things have been okay. I think the steering gear I have in the car now is an AC Delco after getting a cheap replacement and having the car walk all over the road with how much play was in it (was almost as bad as the one I replaced). AC delco one has been good to me since the install.

My car is a daily driver, not a show car or race car by any stretch of the imagination so YMMV.

Definitely stay away from the cheap kits on eBay that are Chinese junk even if located in the U.S. IDK what the current offerings are now, but there were some Motorcraft kits years ago that were priced decently for U.S. customers. Shipping to Canada killed it for me though.
