    Air Conditioner dryer canister cover

I had to replace my AC compressor at 148K miles. Dryer canister was almost rusted thru as well (it's been replaced once already). My mechanic (just a guy I use) suggested that I not reinstall the plastic cover over the dryer can because it is encouraging rust/rot thru. It's been off since he replaced the AC. Does anyone know if there would be any issues by leaving this off? It must be there for a reason.

    What year car had that?

I know most people ditch the foam insulators on the newer cars since they just keep moisture up against them and speed up the rot process. I’d probably say ignore refitting yours to reduce the chance of yours rusting out.

2004. OK. So leaving it off won't cause any issue. Seems to me all it might do is shield the can a little bit from exposure to the heat.
