    steering column grommet

    Has any one ever replaced their steering column grommet that is at the firewall? mine is torn and i can hear exterior noises, i just would like to know how to remove and install it properly, thanks for the help 1985 vic

    I would imagine that removing the u-joint that's just engine side of the firewall would allow you to pull the thing off on the engine side and put a new one on with a dab of petroleum jelly (Vasaline) on the grommet to help it slide on the shaft. I don't remember if it's bolted in at any point though. I don't have a box any more and can't look, so you'll probably have to wait for someone else to verify that idea.
