    Compatibility question for electrical items

I know that manufacturers change electrical connectors and pin-out locations every few years, so I'm wondering what years interchange with 1999?
The keyless entry pad on the driver's door of my 99 MGM has a 9/0 button that doesn't work and two of my passcode digits are a 9 or a 0 so I wanted to know what years I should be looking for when I go searching junkyards and Craigslist ads.
Also, would that be the same unit between Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury, or would I need one specifically from a Grand Marquis?
    Thanks in advance!!!

My google-fu turned up a ford parts listing that shows 1996-2000 compatibility on CV/MGM. So skip the town cars, but vics and marqs are good sources.
