    Default Door Flex

This may sound like a silly question, but is there any acceptable way to reinforce a door a bit to cut down on vibration through the door card?

Seems like my driver's door on the '87 isn't 100% anymore (but it's probably been like that for a while). It's got a fair amount of flex when rolling the window up and down compared to the rest of the doors, however I think it retained water at some point due to a drain port being almost completely filled with seam sealer which I only recently cleared out, so I dunno if that's had an effect. Much of the old seam sealer has also cracked off in the corner towards the B-pillar and seems to have started cracking across the lower seam. Beyond that, when you drive beyond 65 MPH, it also has a tendency to vibrate the door card and arm rest.

I'm not sure if redoing the seam sealer between the outer skin and the inner door would help, or if a brace could be fabbed up that wouldn't screw up the door card. The door is not inherently rusty, just age and mileage showing itself. Worst case, in a few years, a door could be swapped on.

I experience the same thing with the drivers door on my two door. Bugging me for years.

These doors are pretty bad. The ones on my Conti, Mark VII, and Towncar all flex to some amount. There are some ribs inside the door on the outside that I think are just glued to the skin. Might be worth seeing if those have detached. Also worth making sure nobody has cut the door or hacked at the window regulator or something of that nature. Not sure you can really add much to the inside skin unless its between the skin and the door card. The window mechanism is pretty much in the way on the other side.
