So a new and interesting problem popped up today. I'm driving along at 55mph and notice that when I slow down sometimes my headlights dim, the radio goes out lights and all, and the abs light comes on, then after a second or so everything goes back to normal. A couple of times when this happened my dimmer settings went to full bright, and once the car bucked like it was stalling. The dash lights did not go out except for the radio. The first time this happened I pulled into a parking lot and just pumped the brakes a few times, all the lights dimmed but no change in engine speed, I got home and tried it again and everything was normal, go figure. I also checked the brake lights and they're working so I don't think it's a brake light switch short but who knows.
Come to think of it the other day it stalled on me when I put it in reverse after having driven maybe 10-12 miles total but I figured it was a fluke. It did that when I first bought it but I blamed the fact it had been sitting on a dealers lot for a year and a half. The voltage gauge on the dash didn't move but I have a feeling that thing is just like a dummy light it either shows a reading or nothing at all. I've never actually seen it move up or down as the car was running. So yeah it would be great if this could be something simple but I'm guessing it's going to turn out to be some kind of short that's difficult and expensive to trace.
