    A/C Bracket for 351W Needed

Looking for the aluminum A/C bracket and associated pieces to convert from 302 to 351W in 1979 LTD. Need crank pulley for serpentine setup, but this can come off 302 car. Would prefer later bracket for Nippondenso, but interested in early bracket for V-groove GM Frigidaire unit as well.

Please respond or PM if you have and price, I'll make something myself if price is insane, but I'd really rather use bolt-on unit if price is within reason.

    Thanks!

I wonder is the foxbody 5.8 swap accessory bracket (P/N M-8511-B351) would work?

I'm not sure, but it sounds plausible. Thanks for the brilliant insight!
I really would like a Mustang single belt arrangement, so if I can't find a Panther unit, I may try this. I don't see a problem with relocating the compressor - I'd have to have new hoses made up for a Nippondenso compressor either way.

Says its compatible with the Mustang's front accessories, which means none of the stuff lands in the right spot unfortunately. A/C compressor on those cars is on the driver's side of the engine bay, so it wouldn't fly on our stuff without considerable work. He definitely needs the correct Panther bracket.

Right, but why wouldn't that work? The only thing I see that it would interfere with is the carb cool air feed hose - I can reroute that or deep-six it altogether. Thoughts?

You'd have to completely use a Mustang serpentine front accessory drive. It also puts your alternator on the opposite side and some other weird stuff. I suspect someone has utilized the Mustang accessory routing before, but it's a little involved. However, considering this is going in a car that's getting a full engine swap anyway, it may be worth your time.

It would work... but you would need to replace all of the lines for the AC system with custom made ones (I think the mustang ones come up a little short). Adding additional rubber pipe insulation to the AC lines (liquid line - the one that's already thick) when they are that long is also a good idea due to the passing over the engine part. Moving the battery to the driver side and the intake to the passenger side as well as replacing the coolant recovery and washer tank with separate tanks to make room for said battery unless you mount it in the trunk (will need to vent that trunk if you do - hose from the battery box out side the trunk will sort that). And of course, all of the custom wiring to relocate all of the accessory wiring (AC clutch, alternator).

Thanks for the useful advice, gents. I'd still prefer the "Panther" bracket, but certainly not ruling this out. As stated, I have to make new A/C lines anyway when I upgrade compressor. The length doesn't scare me, plenty of cars (including big Fords) run the lines from the pass. firewall to a driver's side compressor. Move the battery? Are you sure about that? It doesn't scare me, I've had trunk mounted drag cars before. But I don't believe it would be necessary and I don't have a trunk!!!). The Mustang alt looks to be in the same 10-20 as the Panther A/C compressor. Of course a few actual measurements would be in order. As long as they aren't needing to occupy the same space, I think the electrons would be happier having a shorter distance to travel...

The battery only really has to move if you turn the intake the other way. The battery ends up where the air filter needs to be. I think you can put the AC on the same side as the air intake and have it fit, but its going to be a little tight.

Panther and Fox alt/AC are almost exactly reversed. PS pump and smog pump are the same locations, or close enough. Fox batteries are on the opposite side too though, so you still get a cable crossing the engine, but you also get a longer starter cable.

Huh? My air filter goes on top of my carburetor!!! (I hear ya, you didn't realize. That's probably what sly was thinking too, everybody's so used to EFI). Smog pump? What stinkin' smog pump?!! I'd have to get an idler to go in it's place. I also noticed reverse rotation water pump. I assume I just need one for a Musturd, I think the inlet is in the same location...

Need to think about proper rotation of water pump if considering a mustang serp belt set up.

One advantage of the panther bracket is you can buy all the hoses pre-made relatively cheaply...Who pulled that 351W bracket off the cop car in the junkyard at scottfest a few years ago "just in case"? Was that sxcpotatoes aka Nick?
