More 302 to 351W Bracketry Questions

I was studying under the hood of Quincy ('79 LTD base wagon) today. My understanding from previous posts is that the alternator and PS will swap right over to the 351W (there was a triangulation bracket for the alt that is probably different, but I deleted it as unnecessary ages ago when I put the aluminum intake on the 302). I guess I need to verify that I understand that correctly.

My Frigidaire compressor has a front steel bracket (the tensioner is bolted to this as well) and a cast intermediate bracket which bolts to the head. There is also a support bracket at the rear of the compressor. Now, I fully understand that they are different 302/351W, but has anyone actually tried simply bolting the 302 front brackets right to the head on a 351W? It seems like it would just move the compressor up and over about an inch (the difference in the deck heights of the two different motors) and require a slightly longer belt. It looks like there's plenty of clearance to the hood and width-wise. Hell, even the rear support should be in the same place in relation to the head. I'm going to have to modify it whatever I do because of headers, but that shouldn't be too tough. Am I overlooking something obvious? Have others tried this and failed, either with a Frigidaire or later Nippondenso setup? Can it work???

One of those brackets connects to both the head and the water pump. Distance between the two isn't the same so the bracket changes. Possible its just the upper bracket for the Denso compressor though. I had a set in a box on the shelf for several years but sold it. I never actually studied the two sets of parts side by side but I do know that the upper bracket at least is stamped 5.0 or 5.8. Not a clue on the Frigidaire setup. I've seen one but never actually looked too close at it.

Good, all this info helps, thanks. So I may be able to just modify slightly or make another piece to get to a water pump bolt. If I can't find the correct 5.8 pieces, I might just forge ahead and experiment with this. Of course I still want to hear from anyone who has any experience trying this if they're out there. I could at least do this (or try it) until I'm ready to swap to the Nippondenso setup. My Frigidaire works just fine for now, but it's heavy, v-belt, etc.

Edit: I'm going to post some detailed pictures of my Frigidaire/302 setup soon, since it's pretty uncommon anymore, and it may help you guys make recommendations and observations.

Just thinking "out of the box" a little. Have you gone to any junk yards and found any older Fords/Mercurys 73-78 with the 351s? not 351M ! Is it possible that the brackets are the same as for the boxes ? The 73-78s used the Frigidaire compressor. Even Cougar/Torino, TBirds had the 351 as base level motors.

That's a good point. I don't know where any are right now. I have seen some of those models for sale on facebork marketplace back when I was looking for a 351W core motor, and I think I remember the compressor was on the driver's side, but I'm certainly not sure. It may still be helpful though either way, thanks!
