Box steering column spring for shifter

How does the shifter spring in column come out?
My shifter is loose forward and backwards shifts into gear fine
It’s a 79 Marquis and there is a 88 Ltd at junkyard for parts

I have a 79 shift column here, but it's from a fox body. I can take a look if you think it will help

I don't know if the 79 one is different, but I've done this on an 86

Take the shrouds off the column so you can see it
Shift lever comes off. Should be a pin that retains it. I think it drives up from the bottom then the lever will just pull out of the hole.

Once thats out you should be able to remove the bracket that holds the spring. Been a while so memory is fuzzy here but I think there is one screw holding it, the L shaped piece comes out, then you can pull the pin with the spring around it off. Once the covers are off its pretty obvious how its held in there.

Looks like a couple of torx or allens to remove brackets and the spring.

          Might help you, might not.

          Just wanted to follow up

Looks about the same as the Panther one if I remember right. Its not real complicated, once you have eyes on the thing, figuring out how to take it apart is pretty obvious.
