Smog pump has never been an issue on my friend's car so as long as that is true, it stays because "why poke the bear".

That's the general idea for me and engine stuff for the most part. I do monkey with the intake and cooling though.

good ones aren't terribly noisy but they do tend to make a bit of a buzz/fart kind of noise, especially when its in bypass mode and just dumping to atmosphere.

When the bearings went out on mine, it started to make the worst ear-splitting whine-squeal I've ever witnessed to come from an automobile.
If it hadn't done that (and thrown the belt), I would've left it be.

I'd bet the biggest performance gain from emissions equipment deletes is the weight reduction...
Except in my case, the EGR went apeshit and made the car run like crap.

This. It only seems to take about thirty seconds of exposure before it's clinging to you like cigarettes.

when John's friends car fired up for the first time with the miswired MAF and the huge vacuum leak it ran so fat our eyes were burning. No converters, took about 30 seconds with both doors open for it to be an "abandon garage" situation.

didn't figure out it had two problems immediately, fixed the maf so it would idle, then the vast sucking noise was obvious. They run a lot less dumbly when there is a throttle body gasket installed "
