Justin uses one, and they are decent.

But its pretty hard to beat a well tuned holley. The edelbrock will pretty much be ready when you bolt it on, the joy of them. Holleys require a little more tweaking...

      I have experience with both.

If you are going for 1/4 mile times the holley is the way to go. But the Edelbrocks are soooo much nicer to set up and run on the street I almost always suggest them for street cars.
Don't get me wrong, holley makes a good carb too, but as GMGT said earlier they require a lot more attention.

I had an Eledbrock 1405 (600cfm manual choke) on my 78 F150 4X4 347 stroker. It was WAY out of whack when I got it. Someone had monkeyed with the timing and the carb. It took a few minutes of tweaking and it ran wonderfully. Even on a cold day, you could hop in, pull the choke and fire it right up then push the choke back in, and let it idle on it's own. That is impressive to me considering the thing had a bit of a lopey idle due to having a large cam. (way to big for the application)

When I helped some friends put a 1406 (600cfm electric choke) on an over built chebby 305, I put my vacum gauge on it and it was absolutely dead nuts on every adjustment right out of the box!!!

In both cases the vehicles seemed to be way to effecient for what they were and how they were driven. The guy with the chebby had been using efi and actually reported a slight increase in mileage, over the next several tanks of gas. I am not sure whether this is due to a great carb design or a lousy/faulty efi system. Either way the car definately has more grunt now.

Having said all that, I have an edelbrock 1460 (600cfm vac secondaries elec choke) sitting on the shelf behind me as I type this. Why did I buy it? Because it was used and cheap. However I am seriously debating selling it and buying an edelbrock at the first chance I get.

Another good carb to look at for your ride is those Barry Grant Demon carbs. I see them all the time in Hot Rod and Circle Track magazine. And their not very expensive either.

        Heres their Site

If you can use the CFM and afford em, Proform makes great holley-design carbs as well. My machinist recommends them for high performance applications
