What do you want from this car? Do you want fuel economy or an interesting conversation starter under the hood? Then this is a worthwhile endeavour. If you want a faster car, or one that's more reliable or easy to work on, I don't think it's worthwhile. You'll have more power initially than the CFI 302, but not more than an HO or Explorer or 351 swap, and all three of those setups are FAR cheaper and easier to get more power out of than a 4.6. The cost difference between carbed 351@350hp and a 4.6@350 will be thousands of dollars.

85 4 door 351 Civi Crown Victoria - Summer daily driver, sleeper in the making, and wildly inappropriate autocross machine
160KMs 600cfm holley, shorty headers, 2.5" catted exhaust, 255/295 tires, cop shocks, cop swaybars, underdrive pulley, 2.73L gears.
waiting for install: 3.27's, Poly bushings, boxed rear arms, 2500 stall converter, ported e7's, etc

06 Mazda 3 hatch 2.3L 5AT (winter beater that cost more than my summer car)

just looking at options. most likely I will go with a 302 or 351. as i can get the whole car for parts it's a thought.

Another option would be to simply flip the '84 and look for another 95+ Panther as a project car. In 95 the interiors improved exponentially and Ford got more serious about Panther performance.

No one in their right mind would trade a 2 door for a 95+.

Dash pad, HVAC controls, seats, door panels, wiring....
It is far easier to find serviceable interior parts also.

Yeah the 95-7 has a better dash layout. The HVAC controls don't get all pushed in and shitty looking, the steering wheel is better with available stereo controls and the whole thing looks better IMO.

This is my 4th panther; I have owned an 88 CV, 97 GM, 99 GM, all 4 doors, I have wanted a 2 door for quit awhile I have no intentions of getting rid of this one. So I guess I'm in my right mind.

Yes I plan to improve this one. A friend of mine has the TC, it is a drivable car but needs to much work to be a DD, but good for a parts car. this is why I started this tread, to see how much trouble it would be.
