Default How to safely drop 2" ride height

I have asked several members on here and the only answers I have gotten are the 1 inch drop speedway springs. I can live with 1 inch, but im really looking for 2 inch. I know hav24wheel dropped his (when he had it) about 3 inches in the front, but i believe he heated the springs (hence safely). I also want to improve cornering ability as well, I have have the PI rear sway bar and I am getting the front. Suggestions?

It's too much of a drop to do with just springs-if you want to keep the geometry correct. The upper control arm mounting point has to be moved up.

You can get any heavier spring and cut them to the ride hieght you want.

Take the car to a prototyper and have them make a one-off spindle. My guesstimate is about $5K.

The one inch drop and the right wheel/tire combo is very nice. The handling is quite impressive also. Not to mention the ability to go over speedbumps.

or you could get heavier front springs (1400 pounders)and slowly cut them down tell you get the hight you want..... After I lowered mine i did have it alined and they didnt have any problems getting into spec.. It couldnt possably go any lower in the front than mine was without a spindle swap.. it was just touching the stock bumpstops on the front..

Just because they could align it doesn't mean the geometry is correct. Bumpsteer, camber/caster gain all are thrown off when dropped too far.

Also, the more you remove from a spring, the rate increases...

Don't they make drop spindles for B-body Chevrolets? According to that crazy demolition guy who came buy, Chevy spindles will bolt right up to Ford balljoints.

I'd start with a pair of 700s and go from there if you like things stiff. IIRC one coil off would be about 850 lb/in and would drop the car a pretty good amount. Remember, the spring rate will go UP when you cut it.

i have seen 2 inch drop spindles for a B Body, but I did not know there was I possibility they could bolt up. Im asking for the speedway springs for christmas, along with beefier shocks, might just play around with the stockers rather than cut up a set of 200 dollar springs and see what results I get.

the stockers won't really have the rate to drop it. You will be bottoming out when you hit any bumps.. And the springs should only be 100 bucks a pair.

i wasnt going to dirve with it, I was going to cut them to the desired hieght to see what it looked like. then If I liked it, I would take the speeddways under the knife.

200 bucks= 2 pair 100 bucks each

does not matter if they are cut or designed to lower, if the shocks are stock comfort tuned, there will be bottoming out.

ways to unsafely drop a car 2 inches:

Place Geo Metro on roof

Place fat chick in car (not recommended)

Drain air from tires

Remove rims, dismount tires, re-attatch rims.

Mount Geo Metro rims and tires

Apply heat to upper and lower control arms until weight of car bends them upwards

Place fat chick in trunk (preferrable to method 2, will only lower rear end)
