    REAR DISC CONVERSION

i am pritty sure this has been talked about many times, but i have a 89 CV and i want to change the rear to disc... but keep all the stock dimentions. so what would i need.

also while i have it apart i really would like to have posi-trac put in instead of always spining one tire in the rain cause it has alot of power... even if i LIGHTLY press the gas petal lol.

    thanks

I would speak to either Lincolnmania or mrltd. They both have pretty much mastered converting the rear drums to discs.

I pulled the backing plates, calipers, and brake lines off a 94 Grand Marq. You have to pull the axels, after that you unbolt the drum backing plate and bolt the disc backing plate on. Then re-install the axels. There are two ways to do the brake lines. one is using you lines on the axels, or the frame mounted lines off the donor car. i used the frame mounted lines. i had to flare two lines and use a few flare fittings from the local hard ware store.

          :stupid:

LIke he said.... you need rear disc backing plates and E-brake hardware, rear calipers, pads, rotors, caliper hoses, hard lines and new E-brake cables. the trickiest part of the entire swap is making the E-brake cables work.
Adding a limited slip carrier can be done, but can be complicated if you don't have the experience setting one up.

you can butcher your own car how ever you choose, however mine is intact and working semi-properly.

I did not put it on because i dont really need one. the parking brake in my 97 that is mostly working, i have used it maybe once or twice in 2 years/30,000 miles. and even then i did not really need to use it.

If your brake's hydraulic system goes out, you may wish you had an e-brake.

In Eric's driveway, you NEED an E-brake...

I don't use mine either really, but they are nice to have... On Duce's nearly race-only el strippo vic, it is optional...

How much weight does the parking brake delete save, like 10 lbs?

not sure how much the parking brake on the rear disc weighs, but 10 pounds sounds about right. dont forget the heavy ass pedal assembly. i still need to remove that too.

10 pounds dont sound like a whole lot but 10 pounds here and there really adds up.

I have deleted my parking brakes as well to save weight. I can usually find a big enough rock if I need to.
