you can gain more power for less money, but you are starting off with a much slower car to begin with. a stock 5.0 box runs 18's, so i have to wonder how much it would cost to get it down to respectable track times, like say 14's.

a friend of a friend ran 14.81 (showed me the timeslip) with his 97 CVPI. he has PI heads/cams, intake, MM airbox/MAF, 3.73 gears, and a chip. he said it cost him a little under $1400 for everything he needed and did the work himself.

not trying to hate on the 5.0, but lets face it, ford phased it out 10 years ago and with good reason.

    That would be pretty cool.

Keep us updated when you get the ball rolling.

The same as a 302 HO firing order, excellent. see I want to see if I could drop a 302 in the towny and pop in the injectors and such and use the dis wiring harness off an explorer or something to keep all my wiring the same. Since the 90 towncar is the first year for the new body but still has the 5.0 I might be able to make it work. But who knows, this is for way down the road.

Cheap HP for the 4.6, hah! Thats what I bought a box for. Does anyone know if the 4.6 firing order is the same as the 5.0 cause I got an idea brewing in my head and it involves my towncar and a donor 90 towncar :drug:

    The 2000 PCM does suck.

A 2001 PCM should be fine as long as the 2 cars had the same RAR.

The only engine difference between the two years is the PI heads, which don't require any different programming to run.

Seeing as Ford and everyone else agrees (me by personal experience with mine) that the 2000 ECM sucks.....can you unplug the ECM and plug a 2001 unit into its place? I know this has come up before... but..... screw the search feature.......

i dont think anyone is arguing that one is a better motor or one is not. Me and blaze are just saying that it is much cheaper and easier to get power out of a 5.0/5,8, mostly because of the nearly 40 years of development that have gone into performence parts for it, as opposed to the 10 years of development with the mod-motor

No don't buy a box Panther. Dont waste your money on a five point slow.

Dual Exhaust is cheap and easy and will get you a good 10 hp.

Dual Exhaust you should be able to get off a P71 at a junk yard for very cheap. Probably like $100.

Marauder airbox, MAF, and chip or flash tuner with a good premium feul tune can get you a good 20 horses, if you go through a good tuner.

Marauder MAF and airbox runs for $160. You'll also need a chip or tune (i suggest the SCT Xcalibrator) to run it. That goes for about $300.

Steeda Underdrive pulleys will get you a good 8 hp, and on my car they seem to get me up into the powerband quicker.

Of course if you want alot of horsepower for cheap, nitrous is the way to go. You can handle a 125 shot on the stock motor, though I would probably run a 75 or 100 shot.
