Won't Go Into Gear !

Alright well this morning I pulled over and trying to put my 94 marquis in park and it would'nt go in park ... shut it off .. started it up .. still won't go in gear. It won't lock into any gear . whats the deal ? is the tranny gone ? I just changed the filter,trans pan gasket, and replaced fluid with Mercon V about 2 weeks ago,fluids look fine.

Check your linkage. It might have broke. Lay underneath the car and have someone shift while you look at it and see if it moves.

Im betting $20 to GMN that your shift tube and shift rod inside the coloum is broken. they all break in the exact same place and way.


You have to drop the coloum. to get at it, whole process should only take about 2 hours. Parts are about $35 total at the dealership. Just go in there and tell them 94 Grand Marquis, and shift tube, any parts guy that has been there for a while will know exactly what you need. you will also need the inner rod since that is what causes the failure, it twists and then breaks the cast aluminum tube over it.
