my first riveted aero window regulator was a bust!!

I was all proud of myself because I got the rivets out and was bolting the glass back to the new regulator when all of a sudder KKKKKKSSSHHHHH a shower of saftey glass bits everywhere.

My question is... are all aero vic/gm window glass interchangable???
Im going to try and get to the junkyard bright and early and pull a replacement.
I have my roomates cordless drill with questional battery integrity to rely on out in the junkyard. great!
I need to get this glass asap for the custumer so we can pretend like it never happened. And I need to not tighten the bolts on the glass so tight this time... or should I use rivets again??? becuase good lord the rivet gun we have thats big enough to do those rivets sure is hard to keep still while your squeeznig it.

Fronts should be totally interchangable but rears are different between the cv and the gm.

Regulators on the aeros are a piece of cake. I've done many for the extra cash. Even bought my own punch kit, drill, and rivit gun for the job.

yeah, the hard part is in your head... I let my boss pop the rivets in I didnt want to take any chances lol...
next time maybe I wont be scared - evidently the rivet doesnt even touch the glass, it just holds tight on the regulator arm and the metal washer on the other side of the window glass coushin/washer.
I was amazed at how hard it was to find some extra long 1/4" rivets to use... NAPA, Fisher, and our local industrial wholesaler-that-delivers werent any help. I wound up driving across town to a fasteners shop and still almost didnt get them untill the guy "looked again and foind some"

yeah, Rivets are best... Napa has the rivets you need. I buy them in boxes of 25. I got the long and short rivets at Napa.

Napa balkamp part # for the short rivets (1/4") is 770-2764, thats for a box of 25 rivets
Haven't found my box of long rivets yet.

Our NAPA must be slacking... the NAPA guy who stocks our inventory happened to be there, called the store with a picture catalouge in his hand. That sounds exactly like the numbers I was looking at too, lol.
They still beat Fisher on price most of the time.

That is one thing I have never had to fix on a Vic, Never had one fail.

Rivets are OK, but I prefer the 1/4" bolt and nylock nut method myself. I've probably done 50 panther regulators, and never had a window shatter. The trick when using nuts/bolts is to use a nylock nut and NOT torque them down hard on the glass mount. Nylock nuts will not loosen up. Just snug them, slightly.
