Or perhaps just a bad sensor? Wondering if I should change both (assuming they are still available) and see what happens. The large connector may just need to be disconnected and have the female connectors pinched a little to allow better connection and check the male connectors to make sure they are not being pushed out.
Taking a multimeter to the driver side temp sensor to see that it's changing between cold and hot temps would also be a good test.
