im looking to run a second alternator, and was wondering if anyone has done this, have the materials and time to create a bracket, i have been searching the net and all i can seem to find is for the 4.6 to run duals. i have one factory alternator and a high output, the factory is 65 amps wich ill prolly upgrade to the 100 amp factory. if i needed to mount them side by side i believe taking out my airbox and running an integra intake or one of the short ram 5.0 intakes should free up enough space. any help would be apprciated on this.

I dont know of anyone with this in a box, of course its possible but how hard is it?
Do you have A/c and Smog in your belt system now? I bet you could get creative somehow and put an alternator bracket from a mustang maybe on that side, in place of the AC... then just wire them in tandem to the battery.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

Id use the mustang bracket to mount the secod one on th passenger side. as for the wiring. maybe find a forum for dB drag racing. alot of those guys run multiple alternators (ive seen 16 on a astro van)http://secondhandracing.com/Home.aspx

Ditch the smog pump, bolt the alternator there, make a splash shield under it to protect it from the wheel, and do not drive through floods/deep puddles. Physically installing the alternator is easy, it's electrically syncronising it with the other one that will give you hard time - post your findings here please, as I'm intersted in the subject myself.

Lots of the folks I know who run multiple alts do it for disgusting CB setups, but they all run the secondary(or more) alts to a seperate battery bank dedicated to whatever they're running. Keeps the sync problem taken care of.
tp8728: I'd probably go with the 130 amp 3g type alternator instead of the 100 amp stocker. The 130 doesn't require finding the semi-rare large frame alternator bracket, and it doesn't require dealing with the external regulator wiring. Its pretty much plug and play.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

k, ive done alot of research today and came to the conclusion that no one offers a pre-fab bracket for this (that would be to easy huh), so im gonna look into other options,
DUCE, what year mustang should i be looking for on this, and im assuming the 5 liter right?
Thanks for that info Blaze, that would save the wiring involved with the external regulater, do you have a site for a not so expensive one?
If i ditch the smog pump,(not really sure what it does), will my car still pass emissions, those sound related to eachother. and ill basically be running two separate electrical systems so sync'n them wont be neccassary.
does anyone do metal fabrication that would be interrested in this project?
of course i know that time is money so if so please PM me. again thanks for the help on this.

My car passes emissions fine with no smog pump. It blows air into the exhaust to warm the cats up faster, thats all. Just go with a fully warmed up car and you'll be OK.

Dual Alternator update
Well i finnaly got it done, Dominick Iraggi, owner, builder of Iraggi alternators helped me out with this one, took the car to him dropped it off for a day and he built a bracket put a new belt on and installed two large case gm 275amp alternators. i couldnt be happier with the results. the inside alternator still acts as the tensioner just in the opposite direction now. for any one that needs an alternator i highly reccomend his product, you can find em on ebay in his store. but heres the pics.
