Is there any since in keeping coolant running through the egr plate? The fitting in the back of my intake is broken and I want to replace it with a brass plug and block off the entire thing. The other side has the heater hose and a metal pipe from what I remember - how can I block off that side?

I did that to my CFI and replaced the whole heater hose, omitting the "T"
I also plan to remove the egr cooler itself since it serves no purpose anymore...
heres my thread, IIRC the plug size you need is 1/4" NPT - if its the same for you...

I hooked it up and measured about 20 degrees hotter air in the lower intake manifold. I unhooked it again figuring that hotter air is less dense, and therefore makes less power.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
