Perforance upgrades + MPG

bleh, ecam. There are plenty of better cams out there. I sold my e cam and got a comp cams XE264. Even a stock HO cam is good for a bunch of power and drivability and economy.

It is totally possible. Mods have too meet three requirements for me,

1. More power
2. Better gas milage or efficiency
3. Last longer than the original, or able to take more abuse

My towncar got better milage with all my mods, until the tick :cuss: I pulled 26mpg with premium and 24 on regular going to scottfest. Now its about 18

For the vic I plan on running the e303 cam with windsor 180 heads, wiend stealth, and 600 edelbrock. Oh, and underdrive's. The only thing that will hurt milage on the vic is going to 3:55's instead of the 3:08's. I'll pick that back up with an electric fan and fuel pump.

True, but it's worth it to have more power with more mileage. And it's not impossible either. I think it much cooler to have a V8 with 200+ rwhp that can make 20+mpg, than a 12mpg mild build engine.

the HO swap gained me 2 mpg, but the original engine was kind of tired, and the HO is fresh. Probably I'd have gotten that mileage increase even just dropping a fresh stock lopo in there. No idea about the rear change as my 3.55 is original to the car. I imagine I could sneak a little more from it if I changed to like a 3.27 but I don't really feel compelled to do that.

My engine swap did gain me some mileage, but my 3.08 to 3.55 upgrade also cost me 2 hyghway mpg. Now I only get about 19mpg.

My HO swap did not change my MPG at all. My 3.08 to 3.55 swap cost me 2 mpg highway.

Depending on your driving, it might not affect the mileage much at all. Similar to how there isn't much of a mileage decrease, if at all, when you change from low# gears to a higher # (3.08 to 3.55's).

Once you do that cam you'll want to install at least the Stang governor. That cam's HP peak on my combo was ~4600 rpms

Looks like a pretty mild cam. As for MPG, my 87 with HO conversion and a bunch of other stuff averaged 22-24MPG with my foot in it alot. You might lose a few, or gain a few. Depends on alot of factors. Another example would be our 79 bronco, stock old motor 200K+ 400Ci 2bbl got 5-8mpg and couldn't move. A built 400 with 4bbl, cam, ported heads, exhaust, high compression got 11-13mpg...and I blew the pinion out of the side of the nodular housing

So one of these days I will get around to doing some performance work on GL, I already have the cam that is going in, it's a comp cams,(Dur. 210/218, lift .477/.493) Phayzer5 suggested it to me, and I am going to be getting new springs and lifters for it, plus getting different heads for this thing. How will putting this stuff in affect my MPG? Seeing as how gas prices are in the toilet now, I would like to have the performance and economy with this thing.
