Air pump? paperwieghts. I have a ton of those sitting around. Same with perfect crossover tubes with new valves...Like 3 sets.

I had an AC compressor seize up on me. Thing squealed like a banshee. Smoke came pouring out from the belt burning up. I popped the hood and some guy came running to see what was the matter. As we were looking at it the guy says, here's the problem and reaches down and grabs a hold of the belt...

Mine worked okay, it's just that some idiot had replaced teh air hoses to the cats with heater core hose, so it melted and when my grandpa first had GL, it smelled like burned rubber lol.

I took the airpump off, since it wasn't doing a damn thing.

My original air pump was seized when I got the car, so there was no A/C either. For like $5 I got a "new" pump from an '84 Grand Marquis Colony Park, it spins really easy and makes no noise at all. My idler pulley came from some early '80s Cougar, needed a 6-rib one as the belt bypasses the already non-existant A/C compressor and running a poly-V belt on the stock flat pulley is not very good idea. At first the pulley was really loud, but now it's quiet, don't know how that happened, but it did...

Oh, if someone needs to bypass the A/C but still run the smog pump, the belt you'll need is one for a 2.3L Ford or Mazda engine.

Typical mess. My idler pulley made funny noises when spun by hand and you could hear a constant high-pitch squeal at idle from it before I replace it. My smog pump is also taking a crap. Sounds like the aliens are landing at idle

Well today we changed the airpump, idler pulley, and the alternator on my 1991... NO MORE noise!!!
The Air pump was about to lock up... you could barely turn it... So the car has alot more pwer now.. and probably alot better gas milage....

The idler pulley was so loose you could spin it and hear it rattle.

The alternator had the stator going bad.. so the lights were "pulsing" which was driving me crazy! The new rebuilt, lifetime alternators from Advance Autro Parts are really nice... they look brand new.. and have seemed to last the longest out of all of the alternators that the auto parts stores sell.... When I first bought this car.. the alternator was bad, so I went to the place that the Sheriff's Office used.. those would last about 5-6 months... This last one, which I bought about 3 years ago... has lasted the longest out of all the ones I have bought... (It is a 100 amp alternator)
