    freaken TV linkage

    today i was winterizing my car for winter with a lube job, snow tires and that kinda jazz, and after that i was egar to investigate the problem with my bros white 88 linc TC since amonth or two ago its been shiftin real rough, ao open the hood and pop the air box cover off and what do i see, a disconected TV linkage. the grommet broke, so i jerry rigged it to stay on till monday so my bro can get the brass one, and its mucho betta!

        Well, he's right. Disconnected TV linkage = v bad for the trans. Make sure the fluid isn't burnt and hope for the best is all you can do at this point.

          the fluid is good still, im guessing that if the trans had a mind, it would think that the driver is driving like a granny, hes been easy on it so the shifts are smooth, but lots of people pass him cuz of it so hopefully it good, w3rd

            if it still has OD, its probably OK. Just go easy on it. Usually overdrive is the first thing to fail with low TV pressure.

              Well, you can still drive on a blown tranny. Just makes it a little more fun. I am sure that you wouldn't let the tranny go anyway, not on a nice car like that one. Just be e'z yo.

                  I went for two years after my reverse went to crap and OD was vibrating like all Hell. Swapped in another one- better performance, but not as good as a stick.

                    My tv rod was unhooked for I don't know how long, when my grandfather owned it. He couldn't see very well and didn't know it was unhooked. Guy at Cottman's transmission hooked it back up, and all is well.

                      everything seems to be in order and the OD is ok, but he never uses OD anyway.

                        some people are just lucky and it all depends on the condition of the aod
                        ie: the volvo always shifted goofy, would jump out of overdrive if you let off the gas at highway speeds.....really annoying........well the gromnet broke, and i might have gone ten miles.......tranny is toast

                        the tv rod used to come off my rigged up 2bbl setup on my 84 cvpi all the time.....that car got junked at 453,000 mi, it still had od when the engine croaked

                        i had an 88 cougar with a v6 that i gave up on and traded to a friend for carpentry work......he put 60,000 mi on it with a seized tv cable.......shifts were really hard lol

                        good idea to pull the pan and change the fluid......add some lucas while youre at it
