HO conversion in 91 CV still runs super rich. #4 cylinder has fire and gets plenty of fuel but it must not be at the same time cause exh man. barely gets hot & you pull plug & its soaked with fuel. All other plugs burn, but are all black and sooty if you pull them. Ive double checked everything. Did a compression check on a cold engine at it seemed OK. Here is all Ive got -91 CV- 92 HO motor- 87 or 88 mustang eec- HO distributor- LOPO lower intake HO upper with bored EGR spacer- 19lb injectors- air pump removed with all vacuum lines blocked- gutted cats- Im just taking shots in the dark now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

if your injectors were used or old, replace the ones that make the spark plugs soaked with gas. That fixed mine. If your running rich, check for a vacuum leak with a vacuum tester. That or just blow cigarette smoke into the engine (when its OFF) into one of the vacuum lines, and if it billows out somewhere, that is your leak.1989 Lincoln Town Car - "Anabelle" - Original block, .030 over with SpeedPro pistons, rods fitted with ARP hardware, FRPP +volume oil pump, GT-40 3bar heads, Crane 1.72 rockers, 89' Fox cam, 93' Cobra lower intake, Explorer upper and 65mm TB, 93' Lightning EGR spacer, K&N intake kit from a 4.0L Ranger, 19lb/hr injectors w/ 87 Mark VII ECM, cat/smog deletes, Big Brake conversion, 3.55 K-Code Trac-Lok/Disc brake rear axle, CVPI LCA's w/1" sway bar in rear, wagon front sway bar, BBK 2.5" off-road H-Pipe, Flowmaster super 40s, HPP wheels, 3G alternator w/LMR.com wiring kit, gear reduction starter conversion, Best 1/4 time: 16.0 @ 85mph.

you say all the vacuum likes are blocked? this makes me wonder where you are getting a vaccum feed for the Map sensor.
I assume you are running a HO cam with the HO ignition firing order.
Also, verify the ignition timing is set correctly (10 degrees BTDC) did you pull the spout connector when you adjusted it ?2003 Town Car Signature - 3.27 RAR, Dual exhaust and J-mod - SOLD 9/2011

im sure its just like my engine was, it just needs some kinks worked out. If I could look at it i would be able to find out what it is no prob.1989 Lincoln Town Car - "Anabelle" - Original block, .030 over with SpeedPro pistons, rods fitted with ARP hardware, FRPP +volume oil pump, GT-40 3bar heads, Crane 1.72 rockers, 89' Fox cam, 93' Cobra lower intake, Explorer upper and 65mm TB, 93' Lightning EGR spacer, K&N intake kit from a 4.0L Ranger, 19lb/hr injectors w/ 87 Mark VII ECM, cat/smog deletes, Big Brake conversion, 3.55 K-Code Trac-Lok/Disc brake rear axle, CVPI LCA's w/1" sway bar in rear, wagon front sway bar, BBK 2.5" off-road H-Pipe, Flowmaster super 40s, HPP wheels, 3G alternator w/LMR.com wiring kit, gear reduction starter conversion, Best 1/4 time: 16.0 @ 85mph.

I assume it has HO cam. I dont think the engine has been changed from OEM specs. I just blocked off the 2 vacuum lines that went to the valve on RH side of engine that has pipes running to the heads, convertors,& air pump. Then I blocked off bigger line that run to air pump from intake.

When you say 10 degreesBTDC, is that what I should have the damper set on at comp. stroke for #1 when I drop in distributor? Or should it be set at zero And tune it in with a timing light? all ive done so far is to try & time it by ear. As far as the spout conn. goes, Ive found 2 of them. 1 near distributor & 1 on top of firewall near master cylinder & wiper motor. Which one should I pull?

whoa hold up a minute, the spout you pull to do timing is the one by the alternator. Then (assuming your distributor is correct) time it with a light to 10 degrees before TDC on the dampner. Check all vacuum lines that went to the smog pump and make sure they are blocked off, including the 5/16 line that goes across the engine from pass. side to drivers side to a "T" fitting that is right behind that round vacuum resuvior and the coffee can AC resuvoir. Did you test vacuum with a gauge yet?1989 Lincoln Town Car - "Anabelle" - Original block, .030 over with SpeedPro pistons, rods fitted with ARP hardware, FRPP +volume oil pump, GT-40 3bar heads, Crane 1.72 rockers, 89' Fox cam, 93' Cobra lower intake, Explorer upper and 65mm TB, 93' Lightning EGR spacer, K&N intake kit from a 4.0L Ranger, 19lb/hr injectors w/ 87 Mark VII ECM, cat/smog deletes, Big Brake conversion, 3.55 K-Code Trac-Lok/Disc brake rear axle, CVPI LCA's w/1" sway bar in rear, wagon front sway bar, BBK 2.5" off-road H-Pipe, Flowmaster super 40s, HPP wheels, 3G alternator w/LMR.com wiring kit, gear reduction starter conversion, Best 1/4 time: 16.0 @ 85mph.

when you drop the distributor in, the timing should be set at ZERO. after you start the motor, then you adjust the timing to 10 degrees BTDC and pull the spout connector when you set the timing.

Oh, and the map sensor should have its own vaccum line, coming straight off the back of the upper intake. you need a minimum of 17 inches of vaccum for the Map sensor to operate correctly.2003 Town Car Signature - 3.27 RAR, Dual exhaust and J-mod - SOLD 9/2011

Not sure its been mentioned, but are you running the correct firing order? HO engines use a different ignition firing order than non-HO motors.
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 is what you should be using.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Well I Think I got it. My dumbass didnt have vacuum running to map sensor. Once I did that,it runs on all 8 and sounds pretty good with no black smoke from exhaust. I went to check timing only to find my timing light doesnt work. But dammit Im gettin real close. Thanks everyone for ideas
