My Burnt AOD: the Solution

Going to order a tranny and torque converter from www.monstertransmissions.com, get a new cooler from Kragen and get my mechanic (SAAB specialist) to do the install. Can anyone provide me w/ any info. like aod specs., where to look on tranny and rear end for identifying info., how a 91 crown vic aod compares to a 91 mustangs, good tranny coolers, etc.

The tranny tag is attached to the tailhousing. The axle tag is attached to the cover. '89 and newer trannys are somewhat more durable because of a rear oiling improvement. Mustang AOD's have a slightly larger OD servo. What else specifically do you want to know?

Mentioned a 91 stang aod cause I figured there's more of them then us. Just looking for info. relative to ordering a remanufactured aod for my 91. Keep hearing about "fit problems" and how there are tons of different model aods. Are certain cars aods longer/ shorter than others? Want to make sure that when I get my tranny we can drop it in and go. Anyone know of a good replacement tranny cooler for a 91 p72? Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be makin a donation to the gm.net cause I've saved some time and money with everyone's advice.

Keep hearing about "fit problems" and how there are tons of different model aods. Are certain cars aods longer/ shorter than others? .

The Mustang tranny only requires a linkage change. The pan needs to be dropped and the shift lever changed. Also use the CV TV lever. Pretty quick and easy stuff.

If I didn't just get paid a second time for a job a did months ago (and I aint givin it back) Id be on the phone w/ turbo right now. As it stands I have the money to fix my aod and see some modest perf. gains. I'd do a rebuild but I couldnt find anyone I could afford to do anything but a stock rebuild, that and Im scared once they open her up they'll find bad "hard parts" or something else that'll break the bank. $875 sounds like a good price for this tranny: http://racetransmissions.com/store/p...587b6d3ca98730
They offer free shipping and don't want the core so I'll have my original aod to pull parts off of as needed, and my old SAAB's totally awesome mechanic has agreeed to do the install so i know itll be done right. Will let everyone know how it goes, hopefully will be done by 6/23. Cant wait till my baby's back cause this car has become a way of life, no hobby.

Man, I just noticed that you have Hollywood for your location. If you are in southern Cali, you are in pick-a-part heaven. AOD's are about free there at the pull it yourself yards.

Are you joking? There are prolly at least 4 times more vics than mustangs. Police cars, taxi's, etc...

The only ones that are longer are lincoln ones...stay away fom them.

I just figured there were more Mustang owners lookin to buy reman. trannys, and things might be geared towards them.

If I was more mechanically inclined I would try the u-pull route.

As it stands it looks like if all goes well I'll see some perf. gains at a price I can live with, with the work done by people I can trust.

Once again I appreciate everyone's advice and info, believe me it was all taken into consideration as I figured out how to get the most bang per buck with my budget.
