    Floor shifter?

Having probs w/ new/rebuilt tranny and and old shift cable. How diff. is it to put in a cable op. floor shifter (Hurst Quicksilver)? Methinks part of the prob. is the OD, D, 2 layout on the column.

yeah I'd like to know how to install one of these. Do you have to cut a hole in teh floor panel?

B&Ms (not Hurst) Quicksilver can be used on AODs w/ a installation kit. How hard's the install?

regardless of the shifter, you will still need a properly functioning TV cable unless you install a manual valve body

Rachet shifters do not require a hole in the floor.

                  They are cable operated...

B&M Sportshifter it is. Seems easier than finding another shift linkage. So you bolt the thing to the floor then what?

My shifter required a 1/2" diameter hole in the floor for the cable to pass through and 4 5/16" holes for bolts.

Figured as much. Ratchet or gate? How long a cable(they all seem to come w/ 5ft), and did you have any probs. attaching it to the tranny? Im worried that Ill get the thing and it wont mate up w/ the shift lever thats on my tranny.

Don't get a ratchet or gate unless it's a track only vehicle. They're pains in the ass.
Get the detent shifter, like the Sportshifter- that's what I had in mine (for two weeks, before the T5 idea). There are no hard stops to fight around when shifting into gear. It'll stop before going into reverse- you pick it up slightly to get into reverse, then do it again for park. To get to the forward gears from park, pick it up and pull it back.

It'll require a 1/2"x1 1/4" hole for the cable and the four holes for the bolts, as was stated. The "AOD Kit" requires that you drop the transmission pan. The kit replaces the shifter arm, so you gotta get under there and dig, break, bend, swear, and then find another AOD you can open for a reference.

Seriously- the arm can be simple (I swapped mine a few times [don't ask] in one week and can do it in a couple minutes, now), but you really need to be careful to make sure you put everything back how it was. It's easy for everything to pop lose when you start unbolting things, so instead of hoping it doesn't happen, remember what everything looks like for when it does. Take pictures if you can.
It's not that bad, really- just remember to put everything back how it was. After I installed mine the first time I'd forgotten something and had to open it back up to correct the issue.

Thanks for the info. Gonna have my mech. (who put in the tranny) do most of it. I think they did a fine job on the install, we just got screwed w/ an old worn out shift assembledge/ p72 prob (OD, D, 2?) along w/ an fd up tv cable. Not happy about having to spend more $ but I think itll be worth it to just to replace the shift cable.
