Ok, what did I blow up?

Was going down my road tonight when a deer jumped in front of me. I slammed on the brakes, including the e-brake. The car actually stalled, and then I had no brakes. The car right will stop, but only when the pedal is 99.99% to the floor. When you pass that point, the brakes try to lock. Did I blow out the brake booster, is it a wheel cylinder? The car has new lines on the back axle, and the line going from the master cylinder to the back axle is brand new as well.

the booster wouldnt keep the car from stopping, only make the pedal hard to press. Unless your proportioning valve is defective, the brake light not coming on makes me think the master cylinder went bad. With the pedal feeling like that, any leak should be obvious by looking underneather the cars for wetness.

The brake light is on. This was at 10:00 or so, so I won't see any leaks until tomorrow.

oh! then yeah, probably a wheel clyinder or caliper then, if not one of the lines that isnt new.

I'll have to inspect them Sunday then, and just drive the Rodeo for now. If it's a line, it's in front, as all the back lines are new. I'm still wondering why the car stalled.

Possibly just sudden switch from power to stop before the computer could react and open up the idle control motor to keep the engine going. I'm with Pete, check for fluid running somewhere. Sounds like you popped a line or a wheel cylinder.

yeah, letting off the gas and hitting the brake really quick makes the vacuum jump and spike, if the EGR doesnt close fast enough to catch up ( i guess you could say) it will stall

Assuming the wheel cylinders in back are FUBAR, I'm gonna just overhaul the back brakes. My question being, do shoes come in sets that do both wheels or do I have to buy 2 sets?

I blew the front passenger side caliper.

Will I be fine temporarily just replacing that caliper? Funds are really, really tight this week.

Sounds like you blew out a line...prolly something in the front, if the lines are new going to the rear.

Actually for some reason the other 2 posts weren't there when i posted....but yeah...as for the 2 pair thing, I thought that was about wheel cylinders...not shoes. Being up for 20 someodd hours messes with my mind
